The museum is dedicated to the history of Belgian printing and particularly the 16th century printer Christophe Plantin whose business was continued by his descendants, including his son-in-law Jan Moretus. In 1876 Edouard Moretus sold the press and all its equipment to the city of Antwerp. A year later, in 1877, one could visit the print shop and adjoining house.
